Prior Information Notice for the Upcoming Open Market Consultation on Innovative EV Fire Suppression Solutions for Underground and Tunnel Environments

This Prior Information Notice announces the upcoming Open Market Consultation (OMC) launched by SDIS 91 to engage with the market and gather information on innovative electric vehicle (EV) fire suppression solutions for underground and tunnel environments.
Current firefighting assets and procedures are not fully adapted to effectively manage EV fires in confined environments.
Standard fire vehicles are often unsuitable for underground access, existing extinguishing methods are resource-intensive, and there are limitations in detecting and targeting thermal runaway hot spots. These factors increase operational risks and reduce intervention efficiency.
The challenge concerns the development and/or deployment of innovative solutions to support firefighting operations involving EV fires in underground or confined environments. Solutions should enable operation in restricted spaces, provide efficient and targeted extinguishing mechanisms, ensure rapid deployment, and enhance firefighter safety with zero emission.
